Part of a 3-coin series (Prince William, Prince Henry and Charles, Prince of Wales). Personally, I am not a big fan of the monarchy (or any monarchy for that matter). But I do wonder, will there be a demand? How do Canadians feel about the Empire nowadays? The Mint has released a ton of British coins today. For those interested, better check it out. Mintage hovers around 100,000 though. For me, this is in the no-buy zone. Edited by canadian_coins 03/01/2011 4:02 pm

Better portrait than on the engagement thing.I won't be buying one unless it goes 15 for 15 and someone can find a bank that will take it. BTW I thought his dad Chuck was Prince of Wales, learn something new about the monarchy every day, unfortunately.

Yes me too, but then Wales is a big place! Maybe it's like a hook and ladder truck...someone is always responsible for the rear!

Read that carefully, It says "Prince William OF Wales" Not William, Prince of Wales. His Father is Charles, Prince of Wales.
The Mint actually got it right, waddya know.
Butt Ugly coin. You keep it.

Thanks Ugly, I corrected the title. I got all choked up when I saw those two fine young Princes. Overwhelmed by joy and excitement I assumed they were princes of Wales. So if Charles is Prince of Wales, what does that make them? Barons, dukes, jacks? Or is this totally different? The link is here, but it may be available only sometime next month. http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/15-ul...-prod1060007

C-C,only members of the Masters Club or Royal family are able to view the coin in the link you provided. Now that Liz is appearing with her grandsons on money,it got me wondering if any of her family haven't been included at one time or another. The royal family must have a lot of fans as it is a recurrent theme on a lot of Commonwealth NCLT.

DBM is correct, some of the links may be limited to club members for a short duration. You can become a member but for that you have to qualify and purchase over 1,000 dollars on coins every year. That's a lot but it will get you first row seat.
Or you can visit this forum to get the info for free.

I was surprised to see they continued the Vignettes of Royalty Series with the 3 princes...who knows if our world survives past Dec.21 2012...most likely 2 of them will make it to king..and we will be collecting coins with their images...The other 5 coins plus the copper one are all very nice...I really like the high relief coins ..It will be interesting to see how long after the queen passes her diamond..That she will wear the crown...We all know she is just holding out for the bragging rites too the longest reigning monarch...then Charles will be king...or she might pass it to William instead.. only time will tell
The record to beat Queen Victoria At 63 years and 7 months

Really? They had him smiling? Maybe it's a plot by the british, to fool us into thinking they all have nice teeth now.

Like many modern coins, the image is too photographic rather than medallic. The toothy grin is odd to see on a coin. I do like the concept of ultra-high relief coins though. The previous high relief series is quite nice.

Hi C-B, The mintage of 100,000 I was referring was for the other coins from the British Mint, here is one below, and here is the 3-coin series:

I've got the original Vignettes of Royalty collection and think those are very beautiful, ultra high relief coins.......I'm very happy I ordered them and have them in my collection. These three coins however leave me feeling more than a little "blah" for some reason, so I doubt I'll be ordering them. Now with my luck, Charles will probably end up being King for a week before he decides he's had enough and runs off with Camilla to some remote land, handing off control to William. The value of the coins will skyrocket and I'll be kicking myself for not getting them Oh well, such is life

I guess the way I look at it is 200 bucks will get me half a common Canuck Sovereign +/- . I suppose if I loved the royal family then no price would be too high, but I'm still much happier with a portrait of the many times great uncle struck in yellow :D
