Seeing how I am new to this, I thought I would post up here, and see if anyone could give me a hand in trying to help train my eye. I've been trying to attribute this here VAM, and decided to try taking a few photos. (Should have turned off my desk lamp, which gave it that red glow on the top right of the coin) So what do the experts think?

I don't think it is VAM 7, check the rest of the attributes. Do the other pics match up?

First I thought 65....Nope...still looking. I cant tell what it is from these pictures. if it were mine I would look at the ones with broken star and broken r which is a few of them. it may be a VAM-89 but go here http://www.vamworld.com/1878-S+B2+Varieties and look at all the ones starting at VAM-2 and work your way down the list of ones with those features mentioned above

To me it seems to match up the most with VAM-7...

The broken star matches, the doubling in Liberty, and the broken are all a match.

As a relative newbie, would the S have anything to do with the attribution. Please correct me if I'm wrong & explain but the S looks to be doubled with a ? in the middle of it.

the MM can have something to do with attribution if its shifted one way or another or a MM/MM or if its tilted one way or another, but that is just one attribute to look at. The first thing I always look for on 78-S is the 4th star, if its broken I know to look for that attribute, then I will turn it over and look for the broken R. If it has one or both of these attributes it narrows down the VAM it can be. Some 78-S are hard for me to tell by pictures and that is why I gave him the page to go to and scroll down to the VAM-2 and work his way through all the VAM's with both a broken star and broken R until he found a match
