I have yet to make any large or expensive purchases for coins and I am coming here for advice before I make my first one. Anyways, I get a mixed rolled of Morgan dollars and Peace dollars and half a roll of 1964 dimes for 550. What do you think?

Sounds like a fair deal unless the Morgans/Peace are worn slick or damaged and even then it's not bad as long they are all genuine.

I'm on the pessimistic side here. Just what do you collect? My way of thinking is if you do not presently collect Silver Dollars, you may be wasting your money. If those coins are damaged, worn smooth or even counterfeited, again you may well come out not on the good end. If all the dates are the same, then what good is that if your going to want to start a collection. Same with the roll of Dimes. Just what are you going to do with all the same dates? I don't think your planning on melting them so what is the purpose of his purchase? If you want my suggestion, I say pass on this deal.

good deal and if you don't like some of the coins you could resell some and make a small profit perhaps.

Carl - when I first started collecting I wasn't sure what I wanted. I thought quarters at first but they got boring fast. Then my mom got me a b-day present and got me my first morgan I really liked the look of the coin, but you can't just go buy a box of morgans and keep the ones you like and turn the rest in (well atleast I can't). So I still only have one morgan. My thinking was if this is a good deal I go look at the coins, and if I like them I buy them. I can resell the dimes, and if I like the Peace dollars I could start on a collection of those too. If not I resell the both the Peace dollars and dimes and instead of paying 30+ dollars per morgan I can cut that number in half by selling what I don't want and keeping the morgans.

Oftentimes I will buy something to resell it quickly. I use the proceeds to fund what I really want to collect. Sometimes good deals come around that you can't pass up.

.77oz per silver dollar *20= 15.4 oz silver .06 oz per silver dime*25=1.5 oz 15.4+1.5=16.9 oz of silver 3/2/2011 silver price per oz is about 34 per oz 16.9*34=$574.60 This is a good investment as long as silver continues to climb. I would take it but with silver so high I dont know where it will go now.
