Is this 1809 real? If it is I think it would grade at xf-40. Can anyone help?

the wear looks even I don't see anythign that screams fake. Also, I'm not huge into this so I'm sure more experienced members might see what I do not. Nice coin though

I have it on ebay right now and I have had 3 people tell me what a scumbag I am for trying to sell it. If its fake I will pull it ASAFP.

I don't know about fake, but it does look like it has been cleaned. Sometimes that is just the lighting when the photo got taken.

I don't know these coins well, but just from a visual appearance, the date looks odd. Did the people from ebay tell you why they thought it ws fake? I would not pay much attention to them unless they gave you a reason.

the guys who e-mailed me on ebay have their own stores which makes me a little suspicious. They didn't give a reason, just said it was fake.

Email them back and ask why they think it's fake.

NGC coin on the left. Don't know much about varieties, but look at the stars near the top of the cap. Particularly the top right star in relation to the cap.

the star is definitely in a different spot over the cap than the NGC coin and it looks closer to the cap also. I would have to say this one is suspect at least

The top two stars on both sides are in different locations compared to the NGC coin. I am by far no expert but this one raises a red flag for me.

Look at the zero in the date...1809...it seems to wide in the center..... even for ware. IMO.

The question is where did you come by this piece?

Does the NGC 0 seems to be more oval on the inside or are my eyes going?

Who wrote the die variety book on early dimes? Was it Valentine? I know Overton wrote the book on Bust Halves but I only have a few cheap early dimes and never got into it much. I've an 1835 in better shape than yours and a lower end 1831 and 1828 I think. Your coin looks good but you may want to check the die variety book to be sure. An edge pix may help. Please these were pre-steam age coins, struck by horse pulled dies or something and uneven strikes are not rare. If you're a guy who's in business for a while give them a 3 year return privilege for authenticity. That way the buyer can borrow the die variety book from the ANA library and check the coin themselves.

There were at least two different die pairs for this date so yours could very well be genuine. I wouldn't grade it XF though. Probably VF30 details would be a fair, conservative grade because the obverse looks to have been cleaned. Regardless of that though, a coin of this age/value needs to be authenticated. Even a genuine or details slab is in order.
