this penny is lighter, thinner and smaller in diameter than any penny that I have and it does not have the usual rim either. Does anyone have any thoughts on the nature of this anomaly?

Your coin is acid etched- someone let it sit in acid which ate much of it away.

Acid dipped. The rim is the first thing to wear down on these.
