I'm trying to identify this coin. It looks like it's from Israel but I can't pin it down. Any ideas ? Thanks

Hi, I am guessing it is a mix of these two Israel coins.
I have no idea of a date.
The first one that is similar to is ISRAEL. Anniversary of Independence coinage.
And the other is similar to ISRAEL First issue of the newly formed State, scarce and popular as such. These are aluminum issues.

Hope this helps

Wait... Scooby Due has one.
Scooby Due just posted some pics with it stamped off centre.
1978 & 1964 year dates, which look very similar to your coin.
Go to All Forums - World Coins and Currency Discussion Forums - World Variety and Error Coins - Cool off-centers, and have a look at Scooby Due coins.

These "shalom tokens" are designed to resemble 1 agorah coins from the 1960-1980 series, but they are not official coins. We've seen them on the forum before, here, here and here.

I recently found this same token in an accumulation that I inherited. Does anyone have any idea as to who issued this token, when it was issued, or for what purpose?

I have the same token. It seems to be rather common, but no one knows what it was issued for or by whom. I sent an email to the Israel Coins and medals Corp, and they are also unable to identify it. Their reply is below. I find it strange that there are so many of these around, and no one knows what they were issued for or by whom. Maybe its some form of play money.

Regards,

Bill

Dear William,

Thank you for contacting the Israel Coins and Medals Corporation.

Sorry, but I do not recognize the currency attached.

Sincerely,

Bella Elik
