How Can You Tell A 1943 Has Been Reprocessed

longnine009 Pillar of the Community United States 1247 Posts	Posted 09/27/2006 3:58 pm They plated the sheet that blanks were punched from rather than the planchets prior to striking into coins. So the edges should be a different, darker color, if not rusted, than the fields if it wasn't reprocessed. Report this Post to the Staff
sn31 Pillar of the Community United States 773 Posts	Posted 09/27/2006 9:41 pm I've got three that are almost totally rusted,and I've got 4 that look almost uncirculated,I always assumed these were the reprocessed ones,as I've been told the ones that were not reprocessed would be rusty looking. :) sn31. Not quite accurate sn31, as those which were taken care of would not have this problem. I have several that I got back in 43 which have been in a collection, and they don't have this rust around the edges. It's true they aren't quite as bright as they were when I got them, but now rust. Metalman Pillar of the Community United States 7123 Posts	Posted 09/28/2006 1:13 pm If the cents have been re plated the edge of the coin will also be plated as longnine suggested,, original cents did not have plating on the edge due to the plating and blanking process which was used.
