Just a few facts from their site: As well as getting into selling UNC.silver dollars, they will be selling UNC platinum eagles, next week. I was checking their mintages and last year they made 7.3 million Kennedys and this year,4.4. Also, last year they made 5.04 million SACS.This year, they cranked out 7.7. ? what for?

the answer, Sandpaper, is $$$$$$. In adddition to the seignorage they get if and when a coin is released to the Fedeal reserve, the usmint also sell these coins to collectors for above face value, in rolls and bags.

As long as collectors fork over the cash for these items, the usmint will continue to crank them out, even if they are not needed for commerce. And don't forget, lots of them go into the proof sets, silver proof sets and uncirculated (satin?) usmint sets every year, also sold at a high premium to face value.
