Full scans of this coin can be viewed in the Grading Section of the forum, so I'm only posting scans of the unusual mint mark here. VAM-3 has been suggested - what do you think?

I'm still playing with this one, but it's definitely not a Micro O. The mintmark is far too large for VAM-3. The Micro O is small enough to fit into the space between the D and O in DOLLAR, and tilted very far to the right.

The important VAM characteristics for this one are: doubling in the date (towards the rim), doubled profile (noted most easily at the chin and slope of the nose), and a two-olive reverse (the olive to the viewer's left of the eagle shows a second incomplete olive up and right).

See any of that?

Nope - can't see any of that with 20X magnifier. It would appear the only oddity on this coin is the mint mark.

I can't say I've heard of too many error Morgans such as this. Varieties, yes, lots, and die cracks, but this is almost a Cud. There's a lot of variety among Morgan mint marks, but this may be unique unless Dave or Bryan can come up with this as a previously defined error.

Nice find!

Yep, it is kind of unique - don't recollect seeing another mint mark like it, but, then, I haven't viewed all that many - primarily just my own. I thought there might be a few more responses in this thread - maybe it's not so unique after all.

Hi Ralph

Actually I think the lack of responses is an indication the other way,, Perhaps one of the Morganites can direct you to someone who can take an in hand look at your coin ? I know that I have seen the guys name posted here,But I dont recall it right off hand .

There's just not enough detail in pics of that size to see what could or could not be going on with the mintmark. I think the person to contact about this one is John Baumgart. He's one of the most knowledgeable all-around VAMmers I know of. Here's his website:

Send him an email, describing the feature, and see what he thinks.
