I found this coin in a brand new coin roll hot out of the mint in 1998 so I bought it and have had it since. Both sides of the Coin have only been half struck and it probably should have been taken out of circulation by inspectors but it wasn't because I have it. Any ideas if it's unique or rare or worth anything? I would love your input. Thank you. ~T

It is an off-center strike. Which means it was struck while outside the collar. It does have a premium I just don't know how much, the experts can tell you and I am sure they will at some point today.

I bought one recently that was mistruck by about 85%, yet the date remained. About as severe a misstrike as possible with the date and mint. It cost me $20 or so. I'd suspect yours would sell for $8-$10 or so. Do some homework looking at sold items on ebay.

Welcome aboard!

This is a great find and one of these should be in the hands of every coin collector. Fortunately, these errors are plentiful. This error is easy to spot in a bin, and the gteat majority of them seem to find their way into dealers' hands before being put into general circulation. It's not unusual at coin shows to find a few dealers who possess a large number of them. Some years ago, I purchased a group from a dealer at a Cleveland show for $1 each. They made great prizes at the coin club. Today's prices range from about $3-$10 at shows. Fairly common as these are, I once saw one like yours bid to $18 at a local auction!

The ones bearing dates tend to be more popular. One way to collect these is by trying to form a group with varying degrees of being off-center ... 5%, 10%, 20%, etc., atretching toward a totally blank planchet. That makes a memorable display. Enjoy your find and thanks for for sharing.

Dateless uncirculated off center examples are typically worth $3-5. Dated OCs are usually worth about twice that and can be worth much more depending on how OC the coin is. The most desirable examples are so far OC that the date is about the only thing showing.

Are both sides of the coin generally off center? Is it possible to have only one side off center?

scurry64, you can have only one side off which is a MAD (misaligned die),but they aren't usually so dramatic as this.

Scurry - both sides are minted at the same time with dies directly facing one another...so if part of the coin is left blank on one side, the flip side of the coin will be blank in the same area.

Only exception is in a misaligned die strike, where the hammer die is not tightened plumb in the press and it strikes the coins with the die shifted to one direction. The reverse of such coins will appear completely normal. Very minor misaligned die strikes (where design is not cut off at the edge) are common and are not worth a premium.

Thank you all for your warm welcomes and for the information. To scurry yes both sides are off center so I am guessing the disc slipped in the die and was only crescent stamped on both sides.

I tried to rescan and post the picture of the obverse. Didn't work :(

My favorite coin that I own is my GLORIA EXERCITVS its a real bronze coin and it has 24k gold leaf on it and framed .. I wear it
