As stated on the Lincoln rolls thread, I picked up these rolls a few weeks ago and didn't really have a chance to take a look at them. I found out when I got home that some of them were marked with dates, and with the exception of one roll that was marked 1961 (was actually 1960), the rest seem to be marked correctly.

Here is the breakdown of the rolls:

43-1
60-1
61-8
62-1
63-3
64-3
73-1
Mixed -13

I've gone through 2 of the 1961 rolls and scanned the best ones I found. Obviously the scanner won't pick up on the luster and what not, but it's a lot better than my iphone until I get my camera back. All the edges have pretty much browned (On the ones scanned), as have most of the coins (Due to the old paper maybe?).

First sample scan..I know it wasn't straight. Sorry.

Best out of two rolls.

Don't look nearly as good as they do in person, but that's expected.

Lame phone attempt at showing luster:

My question: Is there anything specific to look for in the dates? I know there is the 1960 L.Date/S.Date and I'll be sure to look for errors/varieties as well.

One thing that I mentioned in another thread is since I'm new to collecting, I haven't seen much in the way of older coins being in good condition. So when I found these, the luster/color struck me as being odd. I thought they may have been cleaned/dipped, but under my loupe I can't see any hairlines in the fields that would indicate some sort of cleaning.

Nothing special I know, and they are far from being perfect. Just excited to come across them as most of my roll finds are junk.
Between these and the wheats I have coming from Indian1, I'm going to have my hands full for awhile.

Any questions, comments, advice, etc. are appreciated. Thanks for looking!

Cheers,

Ryan

Kind of like you found a great hoard that someone had. HAD that is. Wonder if a relative just turned them all in or where those the finds from a robbery. Or did some kid need money for Ice Creame and sort of borrowed those from his parents. Just to many possible nice coins there. Nice find for sure. Really nice 1961D's too. You know the Mint never issued those with the dates on them.
If I were you I'd go back to where you got those and get as many as you can, just in case.

Definitely someones collection/hoard. Dated rolls and the like. What a great find. Your "lame" cell phone picks look good to me! Head back there and see if they have any more. I save any 60's or 70's with luster and those are hard to find as it is.

I almost feel bad when something happens like that... makes you think about the circumstances of the coins getting where they are... But on the other hand, that's more brilliant coins going into a collectors' hands...

Yeah. It's a pretty big branch down here. They don't have boxes, but they did have plenty of customer wrapped rolls. So I picked up a box equivalent of each denomination. I'm sure they have more. The dime and nickel rolls were in old wrappers as well. Ended up finding two Rosie's and a War Nickel. Not a bad lot at all. I'm definitely going back and asking for all the coins in old wrappers that they have.

Hmmm... Can anyone tell me what's going on here?

I've noticed this on quite a bit of the coins, especially the ones in better condition. There seems to be a hazy area right below the steps, right where Lincolns head is on the obverse. And if my eyes aren't playing tricks on me, it also follows the outline of his body. This coin happens to be a 1989, but I've noticed it on a lot of the other dates as well. Thanks!

Thanks! I've got everything sorted by date finally. I'll be taking a closer look at everything hopefully when I get home from work.

Anyone have any details/answers to my previous post about the reverse side of the penny?

I think that occurs as a result of metal flow into the devices of the die, but don't quote me on that.
