I recently came across an 1849 gold colored coin with the words "HOLINESS TO THE LORD" with a picture of the "all seeing eye" and what appears to be a hat. On the obverse side are the words "PURE GOLD-TEN DOLLARS" with a picture of two hands shaking. I searced the web on this coin and found a few sites which all stated that there is a 100% chance its a copy or replica. I have inspected this coin and cannot find anywhere on this coin to show that it is a fake. can someone help me? I posted two pictures.

I don't see any pix here - where did you post them? BTW you might want to check out the tutorial for posting photos - to the left, under "Tutorials".

And

Welcome to the CCF!

Charles M.Larson features a forgery of this coin on the cover of his book:
'Numismatic Forgery'. He gives details and 'how to' for many types of forgeries and alterations to coins. Learning how forgeries are actually made gives you the education to defend yourself from these nasties. You begin to appreciate how highly deceptive an excellent forgery can be.

This book should be essential reading for all of us in the CCF.

The book was endorsed by the leading lights of American numismatics when it was published in 2004. If a copy of this book becomes available to you, grab it.

Ref. ISBN 0-9742371-2-4.
