Just bought some graded coins that the coin shop was letting go at close to silver value. 4 ANACS 3 PCGS 13 ICG 5 NGC. All are one dollar silver commemorative. I didn't really look at the quality when I bought them only considered the price he was asking. I felt any slabbed silver dollar was worth $30.00. When I got home and had a friend come over to see what I had. We were both surprised. There were Identical coins from ANACS,PCGS,IGC all graded the same. The rest seemed to represent their grade. Are the grading companies starting to be better graders or are we still being held hostage by the whim of the grader. I Read a short article concerning grading being done by a scanner and measurement equipment. Maybe the future.

Grading will always be subjective. ICG is okay for grading/authentication but they don't have a strong reputation. Can't comment on whether or not ICG is getting better or more consistent but will say that you should always buy the coin and not the slab. All the TPG make mistakes.

I have bought and sold numerous Morgans and Walkers graded by ICG and always thought they were pretty much on the money.
