It seems that lately ANACS has become EXTREMELY conservative. A whole lot more than PCGS, NGC, and ICG. But they are so stringent that even PCGS's photograde appears to be more liberal. I was just looking at TELETRADE tonite at some of the capped bust halves. They had an ANACS(yellow label) 1830 bust half at AU50 which I would easily call an AU55. They just happen to list a previously sold half that sold last year in the old holder that was an AU50. To me the coins were nite and day. I have also noted the same with morgans and Standing Liberty quarters. They seem to be grading easily at least one lower grade and many, many times at least 2 grades lower compared to the other TPG's .....

Hmmm. I just got a half dozen back from them recently and a couple were lower than I expected. I'll have to dig them back out and look again.

Quote: just got this last week and after reading this topic was wonder if you guys felt this was correctly graded? Sorry for bad pictures I think that ANACS is Details happy. I can't tell you how many slabs I have seen from ANACS, where only 3 out of 10 don't have a problem associated with the coin. I don't see any corrosion on this Buffalo, only some grime amongst the devices. Not enough to warrant "corroded" IMHO. BTW, I think it would just slip into VG10.

Yeah, no ANACS ASE. Who wants an h...I stop here with the comments before someone says something about it. There's way too many MS70 ASEs.

Quote: now that you say that, I can't think of one ANACS ASE Ther are allot of them on ebay right now so not sure what is being discussed here. Most are graded 70's by anacs also. Maybe its just classics that I think they are tighter since I never look at moderns I didn't even think to look at them to see if they are harsh on them

Maybe if we send one to them that has been harshly cleaned . Maybe then they couldn't resist!

They were the first, the original, and notorious for conservative grading back in that day. Who has lost the way - them, us, or both? And who has, in the right way of things, the most right to take that way back?

I was told by a Dealer/collector that ANACS back in the day did mostly error coins? true or was I misinformed? I try to only buy PCGS or NGC slabbed coins myself.

If ANACS is overly conservative, I would think buying them would get you some great deals.
