lucleus, nobody can really say what happened other than it was not done at the mint...most likely somebody drilled it

Well, what happened is...there was a shoot off, and the second guy not to be outdone by his opponent, threw up a 1946 wheat back penny and fired off a shot...the rest is in your possession...
Or, more likely, some person with a carbide drill bit.

Copper worms. No questiion about it. The mint had a bad infestation that year and they got into a lot of sealed mint bags. My grandfather told me all about it, and he had a coin like that that never left his hands since coming direct from the mint. It was unsearched too.

I forgot all about the copper worms of '46! This seems more likely than the mint pulling the Donut Die Press out of storage. Are you reading this Lucleus? Is it starting to make sense?
