The 50d and 42' through 45 ' silver nickels for starters. The 2009' are rare for most of us. You may want to look down the page for the nickel searchers thread, every thing you need to know is probably in there. to CCF by the way.

Henning nickels! (Do a forum search for what years are potentially counterfeit "Henning" nickels.)

to the CCF. A quick primer for a new nickel searcher ... Keep all coins 1959 and earlier. There is silver to be had in the 1942-1945 coins ... look for the enlarged mint mark above the dome. Start with that .... show us what you find and we will help from there. David

As I search I made a spread sheet that is color coded representing different mintage levels, it helped a ton to keep an eye out for keys and semi keys and allowed me to inventory what I keep.

If you're lucky (and search enough, if you decide to search more nickel rolls), you can find Buffalo nickels (some will be dateless, some will have dates) or, if you're very lucky, Liberty Head nickels.

Finding the Buffalo's are awesome ! ..... You'll also find some Canadian Nickels of all kinds of dates too. And if you search enough Nickels, you'll find other foreign coinage too. But, I warn you, just "cracking a few rolls" isn't likely to net you too much...... You need to search the Nickel rolls consistently.... (a box of Nickels costs $100.00, and many folks do one or two boxes a week, like me) If you search enough of them...... You WILL find the Silver War Nickels and the Buffalo's......and some nice BU ones. It's fun, but you can't only seach a small amount and expect to find " the treasures". You have to be dedicated to it.

The main thing to look for is a 1913 Liberty Head Nickel. I suggest you look into purchasing a book called The Red Book by Whitman Publishing. Full of all sorts of info on what your looking for.

Pretty much the list everyone else said but I would also get the The Red Book and Striking it Rich with your pocket change. It shows you examples of double die, and repunched mint marks etc. That way you can see what you are looking for. If you go online you can get both books for around 10 bucks each, if you go to borders or barnes and noble it will be closer to 30.
