My First 10oz Bar...11oz? - Coin Community Forum

tripncoins Pillar of the Community United States 648 Posts	Posted 03/14/2011 12:33 am I recently purchased a 10 oz Engelhard. Upon weighing it, I noticed it came out at 11 oz. Is this normal? I edited the ID number out from the original picture. Is the bar weighing more than 10 oz normal for an Engelhard? I am new to silver collecting so any guidance/input is appreciated. docsfishn Pillar of the Community United States 1031 Posts	Posted 03/14/2011 12:50 am Because of the avoirdupois ounce. One troy ounce is about 10% heavier than the aviordupois ounce. Therefore the 10 troy oz silver weighs 11 regular oz. If you search avoirdupois ounce and troy ounce it will explain it better. Report this Post to the Staff
