Is it my age or does anyone else have trouble with all the abbreviations everyone uses on this site? It seems like it is all text talk. Could we get a clarification of these WAM CAM thank you mam's shortcuts. Could we post the unclear ones somewhere and not sound like a total newbie.

I don't know. I like the abbreeviations. Most can be undertood in context. WAM=Wide AM. CAM=Close AM. Bothe refer to the spacing between the A and the M in America on the reverse. All hobbies have their own jargon.

actually when someone types WAM or CAM and other common abbreviations it turns to a link, if you put your mouse on that and click it will tell you what it means

I know those two but all the other jargon is sometimes beyond me. I can figure out things like WAM, cam, DDO, DDR, and others but maybe since I never got into errors and varieties I did not keep up with all the grading lingo and such.

The best advice I can offer is to read through some of the old posts in the Variety and Error forums.

You should notice in your post that automatically WAM and CAM show up with links. We are in the process of adding more items to this feature, so DDO and DDR should eventually show up.

What this forum needs is a sticky that directs people to that thing at the left that says Glossary. And it would be easier if in that list at the left there was a lable called Sticky that directs people to that sticky that says to go to the left for Glossary.
The only problem with this is if you go to the Glossary, there is no explanation for Glossary or Sticky.
In almost every hobby, job, profession, etc., people everywhere use abbreviations for what they deal with all the time. At those places they all know what is ment when someone says something that is abbreviated since they all use the same thing. Even kids tend to invent their own languages to fool grownups.
And it is amazing how fast we all pick up what is ment when we hear the same things all the time. An example is every time you watch a Medical TV program someone is always saying STAT and we all seam to know it means right now. How do we know that without that glossary at the left though. Think about things you hear all the time like NASA, Medic, T-Time and on and on.
If you listen you'll always hear someone saying things in their profession in an abbreviated form. Just human nature.
And here we have all those little faces to help shorten our posts.

They were not when I wrote that. Bobby just added those today after I linked him this thread.

Thanks guys! I'm not as dumb as I sound. I guess I'm just old school. Tired of seeing students using text speak on papers they turn in. I guess it's communication no matter what.

That's got to drive you nuts! I mean I understand that English is a living language, therfore, it changes. But people really hand in assignments in text speak? I'm only in my forties and my daughter is only eight. If she ever tried write in text speak ..I'd prolly () be very upset.

It drives me nuts but the new English teachers and state standards say communication is communication. When I was in high school and college we learned Spanish with the word Ustead in everyother line. I lived in Spain for three months and never used the word yet got along very well. Formal language as opposed to general conversation.
