The 1880 Carson City is the next coin on my buy list. I have been checking different websites for one and I keep coming across 1880-CC 8/7 Morgan. Sometimes I see 8/Low7.

Can someone tell me what they mean by this? Also is it something I need to consider when I buy a 1880 CC?

It's an overdate - the last 8 has been punched over a preexisting 7 on a die originally intended for use in 1879. There are a few different varieties, including a couple which show an almost-complete "79" under the 80. A large percentage of this year's mintage is one overdate variety or another.

Thanks Dave....

So that should make the 1880 CC without a overdate the one I should be looking for?

I don't think a non over date would be worth more...but I would just say as one day soon I will be in your boat, and just look for the nicest 80-CC in your pocket book range AU 50 to AU58 is about a $70/80 dollar difference....FMV of $270 to 330....it goes over $500 after that in low MS...MS61 is around $525 and MS64 is about $700..If I could I would do the MS64 and only buy TOP TPG slabbed coins. to avoid
nice looking UNGRADEABLE COINS do to cleaning and what not....these coins will usually cost around $300 for a decent coin and a value you want to be protected....

Thanks aladinslamp, I just found out today that there is a coin show coming to my area April 1st so I will be on the lookout for one then. I was only planning on spending around $200.00 for one but if the right one came along, well I am weak you know.
