Here is a so-called error coin I purchased on ebay's Germany site in 2004... The seller listed this as a 5 Euro Cent with full 20 Euro Cent Brockage, her photos were in low resolution and it was difficult viewing the coins surfaces... After placing a high bid to secure this coin, I was a bit upset when I received the coin and found what looks like a 1st (clear) strike 20 Euro Cent Brockage on BOTH sides of the coin (what looks like edge indents are actually the design on the 20 Euro Cent)... I contacted the seller in Germany and mentioned to her that there was no way this could be a genuine error as it is impossible as you would need two struck 20 Euro Cent pieces and sandwich the 5 Euro Cent coin in between the 20 Euro Cents... She replied that she was not cheating me out of my money and she received this piece in a NEW BANK ROLL from her bank, and all her auctions are "As Is"... This is one for Mike Diamond to give his opinion on...

I think your first instinct was correct. The exact size "brockage" on both sides and mangled rims scream hammer job to me.

If this were a brockage, wouldn't it only be on one side of the coin with no image of the 5 cents at all?

Exactly, this is why I was surprised when I received it as only one side of this coin was pictured in her ebay listing...

I can't say anything specific but some of these errors can be valuable.
Even if the site "Paper" commenting on these errors is known to be a bit sensational.

The coin at the top of this thread is indeed a "hammer job" (vise job, squeeze job, sandwich job). The coin was placed between two other coins and squeezed in a vise or clamp or struck with a hammer.

I bought and had one of those.... "a squeeze job" on a Lincoln Cent. I made the seller take it back and refund my money. You should too - it's sales fraud.
