Hey everyone. I picked up a sample coin the other day (OK so I bought it by mistake). Then I started looking into them, and realized how very cool they are. I can't believe my luck but I was able to get three this month. The first a world slab and two you S slabs. One a 1959 is a NGC green label, from what I have read very hard to find. As are sample's in general. I wanted to share them with all of you. Any help or advice would be welcome since I know so very little about them. Thanks and Enjoy Alan IMG] Edited by acan451 03/15/2011 5:09 pm

What is a "sample" slab, how does it differ from a graded or genuien slab?

as I said in another topic, Conder101 is the one to talk to about these sample slabs, I think he has one of each label change from all grading companies Quote: What is a "sample" slab, how does it differ from a graded or genuien slab? They are usually handed out at coin shows by the TPG to show their new holders. There usually aren't grades on most sample slabs but some do actually put a grade on them like the NGC one shown above, I don't think PCGS has ever graded a sample slab

Hey Muddler Sample slabs are given out at coin shows and places like that for advertising. The thing is, it is the slab not the coin that is collectible in most cases. Take a look at this site very helpful. Alan http://sampleslabs.com/pcgs.html

IMHO these are great fun ... and collectible as well for the true specialist. Quote: I don't think PCGS has ever graded a sample slab I have five (5) early green holder PCGS sample slabs with silver Roosies 1959 - 1964 all graded MS64 on the sample slab. David

Thanks for educating me on the sample slabs acan451, and Bryan1315 you have a great 7070, I'm sure it took you a lifetime to develop such a fine set.

Fenton Why would anyone want to collect anything! Sample slabs are very hard to find, and like any kind of collecting, the fun is in the searching. And when you collect something as rare as sample coin slabs, believe me the searching will take forever. Check out this site, very informative All the Best Alan http://sampleslabs.com/pcgs.html
