I like what looks like die scratches/gouges going across the face of the Cud.

I believe that may be a multi-stage Cud consisting of two or three different die breaks. The lines across the Cud are remnants from the roller marks on the original planchet.

That die must have been history shortly after this strike. Nice!

In agreement with what Boikemist said, those are planchet striations. When the planchet is struck by the die, these are smoothed out, but they commonly appear on an unstruck planchet.
