Um. What is a hanger? I'm guessing it's that line going up from the last digit of the date and over to the leaf?

Just wondering if there is something to look for when I get Canadian cents in my rolls. I usually keep the ones in the best condition and send the others back on their way.

A 'Hanger' is slang for a die clash. That line that goes from the bottom of the leaf to the last digit of the date is actually a reverse of the Queen's ( or King's ) chin from the obverse and it seems like the digit is 'hanging'. There are many types of die clashes but the 'Hangers' seem to be the more common variety.
Check your common known years for them, Some are quite pronounced and some are very faint with the need of a loupe or magnifying glass and good angular lighting to actually see them.

Hope this helps and good luck on your coins!
