I found this way down here in SE VA. I know it's pretty well beaten up, but after looking for information on a "Hanging 3" I've struck out. These are the best photos I could get. It had verdigris and junk all over it. Had to use Verdi-care just to see the devices. Thanks in advance. Edited by carmykle 03/12/2011 1:21 pm

wait, what's a hanging 3? Call me blind but I just don't see it. You'll have to pardon me, I've got a few canadian cents I've accumulated over the years but I'm not collecting them specifically... if this is something intersting I'll have to check mine...
thanks!

-Hi carmykle- It's a 1953 (NSF). --- If it's a hanging, I don't see it? Maybe it got a pardon? for having been treated poorly! ---It's so cool to communicate with people from all over the world, Virginia you say! that penny has gone the distance and it shows! ---I do have a question, if you will excuse me my ignorance, and curiosity, but what is verdigris? ---If I understand your question a "hanger" is like a small die crack that connects the (3) to the maple leaf, generally at the top but not always, as I see it and sometimes it's really hard to see without magnification or the angle that you view it. Hope that this helps you! ---Check this link to a "1963 hanging 3"! https://goccf.com/t/82992

Thanks "commoncents", with all the damage to the coin, I can't see if there is a die crack. I thought that's what everyone was referring to. Some one told me it was also from the branch. Verdigris is the green grunge you sometimes find on copper cents. It literally destroys copper coins. It's a form of corrosion that can ruin a coin, if it already hasn't, and can also spread to other coins if you keep copper cents in tubes. I found a relatively new (1962-D) LMC that the verdigris had actually eaten a whole in to the Reverse. The verdigris could have had very well been helped by some one or thing digging into the coin, but it looked like it was just corroding away. There are several conservation liquids you can use to mitigate the damage, but once damage is done there is no way to restore the copper. Many thanks. Oh, I almost forgot...I was so wrapped up in the verdigris description...I wholeheartedly agree with you assessment of the forum. It's truly a pleasure to share ideas and information with people all over the world. Thanks again, I now see exactly what I'm looking for in a "Hanging 3".

-carmykle-Your quite welcome and thank you for the explanation of verdigris. ---I have seen that green corrosion on pennies before and at that point the coins a goner (mostly). ---That someone was right (a hanger) can come from the twig also. When I said the Maple Leaf, sorry but meant the whole thing, and my being familiar assumed and should have included the branch, it can very. ---In hand is a coin can be appear different! Are you saying you see that in your penny? Cheers

Any hanging Canadian cent is from a die clash...... The neck and the chin of the Queen clashes above the date..... Here is double die clash ie. double hanger of mine for reference....

That must have been a double chin.

I gave my sister all my cents. Better call her and school her up a bit.

Sorry! Maybe Wild Bill is right about clash opposed to crack my bad! ---One could say there's nothing more than a fine line that distinguishes them apart ---I don't see a neck or chin or cheeky. I thought I was being nice about it, he did say his was a double! ---But seeing you brought it up! this needs to be said! What about...... following each point! What's that? it's not etcetera!...---Something about (......) carries a tone that I don't like, and question it's need, meaning or why used? Or, maybe not? ---Maybe I need to be schooled, not just told...... I would be OK with being schooled, if in a more humble manner! ---It would be more friendly, less offensive and I would say never too old to learn and Thank You! ---I'm not a know it all, but if I'm to be corrected OK! but should also be shown proof, that way we could all learn, then be as a matter of fact! and be more credible!

commoncents13,
I do the same thing a lot in my convos or posts and use the (....) after each sentence. I use as a meaning for 'hang on' 'and' 'wait a second'. I think Bill was just posting what he knows without correcting you. We all mix terms up sometimes...just happens lol Your opinion is valued and I for one enjoy your observations :) .... ;)

-thatcanuckyguy- Thanks for your kind words! ---I believe a true example of good character. ---But, if I may say for you to suggest (think what Bill meant) is taking a leap of faith because it was not you posting it. For myself, I would only speak to my own words or there meaning. ---It was noble of you to try and explain and justify his meaning, you may be right, but just as well could be wrong and could be risky? ---IMO to offer an opinion on a coin is safer, (sometimes)! --- I still stand on my opinion about (.....) --- It, if used can leave the dotes to interpretation as to it's meaning, like a incomplete ending to a statement or meaning (fill in the blanks) depending on it's presentation. ---Not everyone has the same intent! Think about it? ---Still IMO if you need to use (.....) like you say if used to say hang on or wait a second, then maybe you don't have time to give a proper complete post? just a thought!--- Bottom line one period, (!,:,;,&,?) would due to end a thought, they have definition and are more clear! Cheers!

That's not a hanging three. If I had to guess, I'd say death by burial in manure.

Hey! -biggfredd- That's a poignant observation and to the point! Worthy of a good roll! I've looked at it twice. Same result each time! Thanks! We need more funny! Like a coin with a very good relief! I try too!
