I got a 1963 nickel in change today that got me reminiscing. Just a common nickel but it was in AU condition. Still only worth a nickel but I started wondering where this nickel had been for the past almost half century. It had seen very little circulation. Pennies do get hoarded and then spent many years later but not nickels. Did someone keep 1963 BU rolls for many years and then give up when the price just did not increase and just spend them?

I remember when I was just a kid in the mid fifties and had just started collecting pennies and nickels. George V nickels were common in change but very worn - G to VG mostly. One day my parents brought home a used sofa they had bought for our living room. The first thing I did was search under the cushions for change. I found a 1934 George V nickel in AU condition. It must have been there virually since it was first circulated. Then, 25 years later it was discovered.

Just rambling, I know, but there is a story to this lowly 1963 nickel that we can only wonder about. BTW - I still have that 1934 nickel!

Good story, yeah.. you can still find AU, Unc. coins in rolls and such.

I find 1964, '65 nickels in very good condition in rolls quite often.

some of these get hoarded too..

I think it was ponderered into my box this morning

Pondering-On-A-1963-Nickel.

I'll know more when I find my glasses, but this is looking like a DDR

I needed 3 more decent '51-S's to top-off a roll, but the counting/wrapping machine shot me down
