The Lincoln Cent, minted out of San Fransisco in 1969, is well known for Machine Doubling, the effect that appears similar, but is not a doubled die. All the experts agree that this happens after the strike and in not a consistent happening due to what causes it, a lose die. The actual worth of a machine double coin is debatable, but at most, a small permium could be attached to the coin for the more dramatic occurrances. Now the baffling part taking into consideration what has been said above.

1969-S Lincoln Cent - DOUBLE STRUCK "VDB" ERROR - RARE!

Why do people pay an outlandish price for something as common as this? If you know the answer, let me in on the secret please so I can be enlightened.

Because, in the immortal words of Abraham Lincoln, some of the people can be fooled all of the time.

Terminology probably has alot to do with it. Too many people dont understand the difference between Machine Doubling and hub doubling. They see "double" and think dollar signs when they dont understand the process that created the doubling in the first place.
