This is a special coin that I liked from the start, an 1869 50c, there are two errors on the Reverse which I dont really know how it came about. any comments on how the errors came about is welcome! Thanks
error one: the "T" on the word state, lacks the top right error two: there appears to be a crack or upraised line on the letter "N" at the reverse
Hi Nic, Well the crack over the N is crack in the die where the metal under pressure escapes into when the coin is struck. The missing part of the T is likely due to grease, dirty, metal shaving, or any combination of the three clogging up that section and preventing it from being struck. Basically, it was made with a dirty die.
