all I ever look at is 1878 Morgans and have noticed the price has dropped considerable amount in the past year on 64's and 65's in both NGC and PCGS slabs. I am talking the price has dropped about $300.00 in MS-65. I guess everyone is buying junk silver and have no money to buy the nice stuff right now so its definitely a time to buy some of the coins you couldn't afford last year at this same time

I mainly look at O mm's and do venture off once in a while into non O's that interest me.

When I first started researching Morgan's (diff years, mm's and grades etc a few months ago) it was very evident to me the 63/64 area was way under priced compared to other grades at that time. Also, at particular price point's thing get very subjective as it relates to collectible coins and currency as the universe of collectors at that level are a select few.

I do agree that some are selling the nicer coins / currency to jump into the metals.

At some point in the future I will look into buying some of the key and semi key dates in higher grades.

when I started collecting Morgans I looked at the price guides also and that is why I focused on MS-64 Morgans. The p[rice from 63-64 wasn't that much different but from 64-65 was usually quite a big jump in most dates, so I decided the MS-64's was where the biggest gains could be made. Of course at the time I didn't really know much about coin grading or much about what it meant (just knew it was graded 1-70). I had done my research before buying though and did focus on PCGS and NGC coins. This worked out pretty well until silver prices started climbing so fast, that is why I say I think everyone is buying junk silver and all the 64's and 65's are way under what they were as little as a year ago, with 64's still losing less ground than the 65's have

Bryan,
What was the price range of the 64's about a year ago. When I started looking at common date graded Morgan's they were in the 55 to 60 area.

Also is there a free chart or price history of generic graded ms 64's (morgans) on line somewhere? Only one I saw has the key date Morgan's.

Thanks

this is from June 30th 2008 http://classic-web.archive.org/web/...l.aspx?c=744 The actual prices the coins sold for at that time will differ from their prices show because that is retail and they sometimes sold for a hundred dollars less consistently but anyway that is the only date I can seem to find

Based on last weeks prices 63's are lagging BUT I am not seeing anything for my collection / want to pick up.

I wonder how long this weekly bump up will last.

I sold a few duplicates and said I wasn't going to buy any coin unless I needed it for an upgrade and then all of a sudden VAM-80's came crawling out of the woodwork and since I have so much trouble finding a VAM-80 (in any grade) I did buy all of them I could find. I am also getting ready to upgrade my camera to a dSLR camera and that was the reason for selling my duplicates but I spent quite a bit more than expected on these coins so I am going to have to wait a week or so on the camera
