After seeing a post on collectors I went into PCGS price guide (free version) on the net. What is below is only referring to O mints as that is what I had looked at.
I notice most (Common date) of the MS 64's are now starting at $100 and MS 63 are staring at $70+. Same may be going on with other common date MM's but I do not follow them.
Question for the pros? -- Is the price change reflecting an adjustment for the value of silver OR is there something else going on in the market? Thanks

There may be some upwards push caused by higher silver, but usually there's quite a lag between higher bullion and higher collectable prices.
Much like minimum wage getting raised from $6 to $7.50. The guy making $12 won't get $15, and possibly won't even get $13.50. Think of bullion being minimum wage and the higher wages being better material.

A dealer at a show was buying up PCGS MS-63's in any common for 54.00 bucks and was selling them to pcgs for a little over that for some promotion about 2 weeks ago. I am not for what but home shopping network would not surprise me.

I looked around and APMEX is paying $75 for pcgs / ngc 64's and around the price you mention for 63's. There are some dealers paying $80 for 64's regardless of the slab (pcgs / ngc). Also one article I read has someone buying up quite a bit of raw 1921 BU Morgan's out of cali. |

I bought 14 Morgans this weekend at the NW Coin Show, 3 day event in the Twin Cities. 63's were going for an average of $60-$70 and 64's were averaging $80-$90 for common dates. Prices are up and what I was told by quite a few sellers is that they're not going down anytime soon....

I've been out of the picture for a while but to me prices have doubled...not for raw coins but for plastic...perhaps they are recouping the cost of submissions? this last year prices have really gone up...for common coins...could be due to the silver prices have also doubled...will this last or be a blow out?

The prices I stated above were for raw coins. Slabbed coins commanded a premium. I spent $1,040 for 14 coins, all raw, I guess that's around $74 per coin. I purchased mostly 64's exept for 2 or 3.....

Most collectors and dealers I know could care less about "plastic". It's fairly easy to tell if a coin has been tampered with under close examination. It's very important to learn about the coins you collect before assembling a collection, unless of course you just want other folks to tell you what grade/condition/example of coin you have.

I forgot to also say that in my opinion, I do not beleive that most older coins have been tampered with or cleaned as stated above...quite the contrary as to what I come across...a small percentage only.

I would say according to the going rate for Morgans these days, you did very well... Provided the coins you bought were the grade you stated, not that I do not believe you, I just know people on the whole do NOT have a clue how to grade a coin, I know you said you do, Good Deal......PS, I have been paying for slabbed 64's more than that, I'll tell you that......( cherrypicking B1'S )!!

Yes, slabbed coins are higher in price than raw for sure!! Yeah, I'm not worried what I paid as I've looked at thousands the last 40 years. I looked them over tonight again and they all look OK, some better than others, but, on the average nice 64's. I buy from this seller monthly and have done so for some time now. He was connected to my mentor who I started with in 1968. Prices are deffinately up and no doubt will stay there indeffinately if not forever..... By the way I forgot to respond to Alladin on the prices of 65's.....they were selling from $160 to $170 depending who you knew and slabs were as usual commanding a better price. Thanks Morgans Dad for the heads up! Have a good time collecting!

Oh, and also in keeping my posts in this thread in regards to the VAM forum....I did find a few minor VAM's, this is why I like buying raw coins more now than ever....It's late and I will be more specific later on them and maybe get some help/input from you good folks>>>>CHEERS |

1893, I have been searching for a particular type set and have a few mentors,ONE whom I believe is a PCGS snob,(LOL) I have for this set, been looking for only slabbed coins, I NEVER would believe I would be looking for slabs as I have ALWAYS collected raw and loved it, I feel if you are an educated buyer, can grade the coins you seek, and know the Vams well, that you are looking to cherry pick you should do well.
I have found a few things out I did not plan on, the price of AU is steadily climbing, which is good as a silver collector, and the slabs I am checking out are also not getting any cheaper, I just paid $220.00 for a PCGS slabbed MS 64+ Morgan,( Anna looks good)!! THIS is not getting better, however I am a true hobbyist/collector and sometimes the things we wish to try and put together, are costly, Be Well, Mike.....
