I'm trying to find information on this apparent error, it's a 1922 penny with the stop to the left of the date missing

1922-Penny,-Missing-Stop

Examination under magnification shows no trace of the stop, nor any evidence of post-strike alteration. I have been collecting coins for more than 50 years, and have never seen another example. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
