Are there any tips, tricks, methodologies for capturing the full luster of a coin? I know it can be done as I've seen some great pix of highly reflective jewelry, silverware etc. Below is my latest effort. Still far away but the best I've been able to manage so far. This coin in hand is blast white and has luster just dripping right off of it. Am I going to need some sort of SLR to do it? I'm using a Canon A720 SI 8MP camera but I'm getting even worse results with 2 other point n shoots I have. This one was shot at f/2.8, ISO 80, eposure 1/125 with spot metering.

Try adding another light and place as high and close to the lens as you can possibly get them...post one light at 10 and the other at 2 o'clock. The larger working distance between your lens and coin, the more color and luster will come through. With the additional light, you can also try increasing your aperature a few points and increase your shutter speed.
