Picked this one up on ebay just out of curiosity. it has the inscription on one side like a 100 mon coin from some Japanese provinces, but the rest of the design is very different. Also, it seems a bit crude for Japanese items from before the Meiji period.

Wondering if this is some sort of amulet or just a modern fantasy.
It's brass, weighs a little under 21 grams, measures about 38mm x 22mm and 3mm thick. The edge has striations like it was smoothed on a soft stone.

Any ideas?

Thanks! =)

It looks quite suspect to me- the cast writing should be much better.

Yea it's definitely crude for an official Japanese piece, though some local pieces are this quality. Definitely agree with you that it's suspect, just trying to figure out if it's modern or old.
