i have a coin that I had bought when I was just starting collecting years ago. A 2 1/2 liberty type that is in a CCSG holder (Capital Coin Grading Service). I know this isn't a reputable grading service. that and the fact the holder is scratched up. it makes the coin look as though it has scratches (cleaned) ect. my question is what is the safest way to handle a coin in MS state and transfer it to another holder without lowering the grade? suggestions?

If you're going to get it graded, I would check to see if you can mail it to the new grading service in the existing slab. If you're going to put it in your own holder...very carefully.

And because of the service it was graded through, it is more than likely going to be graded a bit much lower by a reputable grading company... Sometimes by up to 5 points difference

Handle by the edges and use cotton gloves.

i was just worried that inserting it to a new holder even with cotton gloves. the pressure needed to secure the coin would cause contact marks lessoning the grade.

If your planning on selling it, why bother spending money on reslabbing? If you do not plan on selling it, why bother spending the money on reslabbing? In other words, I'd leave it alone.

Very carefully. If it has any kind of finish left on it you're going to compromise that to the degree you touch it. They have things you can apply to plastic that will remove the scratches, if you want to go that route. I forget the brand names, but I'm sure you can look those up.
