DO you guys get more satifaction buy collecting your coins out of circulation or buying them? I know I love working at the drive thru on the weekends and coming home with all types of coins and bills I find. Ive never bought anything yet.

Strictly buying. I have yet to find anything worth more than face value (aside from a couple old crudy wartime nickels). When I first started, I did just collect out of circulation, now I rarely look at my change.
But the stuff that I really like is pre-1900... don't find too many of them in circulation anymore.

Unfortunately, I don't work retail for a living so my cash handling days are long over. The change that I get from stores is nothing to write home about.
Personally, I get satisfaction not from buying them but from hunting for them. The trill of the hunt is what I enjoy. Buying them is just a transaction. I also enjoy reviewing my collection at home ...looking over what I have and trying to figure out what to go after next.

I have never really been into collecting coins to make big money, so my collection is made up of circulated coins mostly, but I do have three silver coins. Two I have purchased and one sent to me in a swap with DJLuster. Steve  |

I like buying since I like coins in their natural color and with good details. I don't look at pocket change much.

The stuff I collect hasn't been in circulation in over a century, some between two and three centuries or more, so I have to buy them.

Me too. The majority of coins I collect are around the turn of the (20th) century, so it would be useless to go change searching. So, almost strictly buying for me.  |

I buy the coins I want for the small collection I have in mind, but I really enjoy getting rolled halves and dollars from the banks when I can find them and rooting thru them

Unfortunately the coins that I collect arent found in circulation any more, so that generally means you have to find them in other fashions. I have bought coins when there wasn't any chance of finding something the person needed that I also had duplicates of and couldn't swap. I've dome a lot of trading over the years and find this is a great way of enjoying the collecting of coins. |

I buy most of mine because they are out of circulation. However, I do keep my eyes peeled for anything interesting in change! |

about 99% of my collection has been found from a register, but the 1% I appreciate more because its in prime condition and still retains most of its original coloring.

Being my age ( 60+ years ) and having a Grandfather that collected coins for many years before I was born, he started me in the hobby many years ago when you could find GOOD coins in circulation. Then I was LUCKY to have his collection passed onto to me after his passing. But I remember when I could and DID find things like 1909-S Lincolns, 1950-D Jeffersons, excellent condition Mercury dimes, even Indian pennies and Barber coins all flavors in circulation. Those were the days. |

I dont have much to spend on coins so I collect from circulation mostly. Looking through rolls and change.

I think I get equal satisfaction out of both. I buy the majority but I have Lincoln Cent and Jefferson nickel sets all from circulation so far. I will upgrade them someday but for now just looking for pocket change for them. Everything else I buy. |

I do both. I collect circulated coins for my sets and new, from dealers, etc. as I find better grades. There are still a lot of older U.S. coins out there. Just last week I found a very nice 1918 Wheatie in change. I still find silver in circulation but, not as often as I use to.

I buy the stuff I put in my nicer albums. I have coin folder for my coin out of circulation. I do both it might be the fact that I am still fairly new at collecting just over a year seriously collecting. so I need to keep it fresh and feed the addition. so I buy rolls just for fun to have some coins to look through. I have really enjoyed my half dollar book I have been working on out of circulation. But I only buy my coins that go into my type set. I am very picky on the look I want in there. Also my Franklin half, Barber dimes, Mercury dimes, and State Quarters Are bought from dealer of Friends here. I don't like to buy off of ebay anymore since I have been unhappy with some of the ones I have bought. Also I get a better deal from the 2 dealer I spend all my money at. Since there prices are usually lower then ebay or any online site. So I do both but the set I am most proud of are the ones I bought. |
