Hi, I'm looking to get some silver eagles but I've seen drastically varying prices for them. What would be a good price for the proof and bullion? How about the gold eagle 1/10th? proof and bullion. Would different coins of the same material and size retail about the same? (eg commemeratives and foreign coins)

For a 2011 Silver Eagle the prices have averaged around $4.00 over the spot price of silver. With silver closing above $37 today you can expect to pay $41 per coin. With older years the prices will be higher. Buying from an individual seller or a coin shop and you might be able to reduce the premium somewhat. These are for the bullion coins, not sure about the proofs.

Premiums on the 1/10 Gold Eagle are between $25 and $28 dollars for a 2011.

It will also depend on the price of silver. Some annalists are predicting $45 an ounce by mid year.

I'm especially interested in the proofs does anyone have a ballpark figure for those? I've seen them much higher but I don't understand why since the process can't be that much more expensive and they aren't as flexible an investment as bullion from what I've heard.

If your looking to get 20+, I would suggest you go to fidelitrade and buy the 5oz ATB Quarter set for 929 shipped which comes out to 37.16 an oz shipped and you will never find eagles or any other bullion coins that low

***didnt relize that spot is at 37.33 so its a bigger steal then ever****

Don't get silver eagles, after you pay the 2-5+ an oz premium its not worth it. Get 90% silver, you can get it at melt or below melt!
