So today I went to my local bank Monday and again tried to pick up coin.. nada. They never seem to have any and the same teller just told me they have 1 box for the entire bank of each denomination. I have even asked her when I have seen Brinks arrive. She always just has the same story that they were picking up coin... not dropping off. I am always very polite but have had enough so I have decided to bring them coin since they never seem to have any hehehehe. Today I brought them 2 nice dime boxes .. wait till they receive my 1k dumps a week in halves. It's really frustrating when you have an account but the tellers are just to lazy to help you!

does not mean they are lazy ,,, could be the banks rules.
One of my banks has a branch rule about min coin allowed in change.
If you go and withdraw 87.84 cents. They will not allow anything more then 84 cents period along with the 87 in in paper money.
Dont know why its just their rule. The manager says " to keep overhead low and free checking they deal mainly with paper money " but will send you to the branch across town where they keep the bigger vualt if you insist on change.
he also blamed a internal audit on overhead cost as reason his branch had to stop providing change ...
makes sense if you branch is not making money and your reginal manger orders a audit and see's boxes and boxes of coin going out he/she will say stop it

also remember you are not the only con searcher , maybe someone else abused the system and wenk week after week for coins to the point the branch manager had to say no more.

No, I know for certain that it is not bank rules in this situation... as I have been banking there for about 5 years. The head teller is just a big pain and lazy as the day is long. She won't even give me a roll of pennies if I were to give her 50 cents. This is a real example from the past. She doesn't even check to see if they have something just saves her head no. She knows that I collect and has shown off silver quarters she's come across.

she knows you collect ,well there you have it. You are costing the bank money searching and dumping , move on to the next bank.

So you can't get 1 roll of pennies? Seems absurd.. also I've come in and seen other customers leave with rolls of coin. I DO have a business and personal account at this bank. The other locations of this bank are wonderful but this one particular bank.. because of this teller is pretty bad. It's ok though.. I'll just keep her busy with my weekly coin dumpings.

I have a large business account at the bank. I highly count getting coin two times a week over the top. I get the halves elsewhere.. this bank I would just go to for pennies and dimes. I have gone elsewhere I'm just excited it's my new dump bank.

you said your dumping 1k a week in halves ?
Its obvious you were not just getting a " few boxes or rolls " from that bank that now says no.
They just got tired of it. no big deal go to another bank , they wil get tired also then go to another,
I have 4 banks I go to , I go to one each week or once a month for coin.

Yes, I just started ordering halves from a different bank (Never done this before).. my first box comes in tomorrow. SO I know exactly where I will be dumping them. They will be dumped each week with my favorite teller. To clarify I was just getting dimes and pennies twice a week.

I wish I had started this half dollar box order thing long ago.. I see some folks order 10 boxes at a time wowy! I've only found loose rollf if I'm lucky of around 10$.. and that has been rare.

Dont worry you wont do it for long , as soon as becomes a regular thing.
the bank will count the first $100 in coin for free then charge 8 cents for every dollar above 100$ Its what the local banks around here have done to stop coin searcher/dumpers from doing what you intend to do.
If you go to this bank teller and dump 1000$ in havles each week , I give it say 3-4 weeks before she tells the manger to charge the fee. You wait and see.....
Not to sound rude or anti coin searcher. Its what the banks around here have done

Please clarify what do you mean by "Count" coin? I plan to roll it all. So your saying you can't turn in rolled coin?

Also you mentioned "local banks"... are you referring to community banks or large banks? This is a very large national chain. I could understand that with a community bank.

spetti,
Im in tampa , Lots of coin searchers in this area. I think it has to do with older retired people with a lot of time on their hands.
Suntrust bank has not a problem with coins but asked that I call in advance a few hours ahead of time to save the trip if they were running low , BB&T wont give coins at my local branch but will at the bigger branch BBT also has a coin counter behind the counter and takes loose coins with no problem, Regions will give a very small amount of rolls but I feel a vibe they dont like to do it so I dont push them. Macdill credit union started the fee on over 100$ per day of coin and wont ordr boxes but " gives a few rolls if you need them and they have them "
For me suntrust is where I get most the coin and regions sometimes, BBT is the dump mainly only becuase they dont offer coins at my branch. They do offer FREE checking When I joined that was my major question was would they take loose change and they said yes just give them to the teller , she goes in the back room I wait and then she deposits it into my account
If your gonna roll it and dump it you might not have such a hassel. But even then " they might direct you to a bigger branch " if you start bringing them 1000$ a week in halves
You just started doing the halves searching , I did it also but my bank stopped ordering becuase someone didnt pick up 2k in havles and they sat there for a 2 months and had to be returned.
Dont go crazy and dump 1k on this teller every week. That will pretty much get you no where. Just keep asking for coin everytime you go, if she says no get back in line and ask a different teller and she will get the picture. If the awnser is still no try suntrust bank they seem to be fair for me

Thank you SO much for your help! :) Yeah, I agree there are a ton of retirees and snow birds down here working on their collections. The bank that I've had a tricky time with is Wachovia now Wells Fargo.. which is pretty big around where I am at. The other locations are fine it has just been with this one lady who is always kinda cranky. You are certainly right about the teller situation. When she is not there and I'm able to go to the other girl .. she is super sweet and nice! Ahh the in's and out's of coin collecting hehe. It is totally about the right bank and the right teller for sure. I haven't tried any of the banks you mentioned.. but might have to try Suntrust at some point. Yeah.. I always reroll my coins (the pennies & dimes).. I'm a pretty small female and they are a lot easier for me to carry. Loose coin would be pretty cumbersome. Thanks so much again for the tips! I really appreciate your help. :)
