I bought a 1911D Barber dime. It's an F12 coin but seems to have been cleaned. (The dealer said it's too clean & polished.) How many points do I need to deduct?
Don't deduct points, deduct money. The whole purpose of deducting grading points is to establish a price point, anyways, and like every coin, the price is what you're comfortable paying for it. There's no set rule of thumb concerning cleaning, anyways, since "cleaning" is a huge range of possibilities from an unnoticeable dip to a Dremel.
Cleaning deducts value from any coin. As stated, it boils down to how much you want to pay for a particular coin. I would much rather have a cleaned coin then a polished one, even though technically, a polished coin is a cleaned coin.
