It's not technically ancient, though it's still quite old. It's an early Islamic silver dirham, from the early 'Abbasid period, I believe. The inscriptions are nice and clear and I should be able to read the date, once I can dig out my "Arabic coins and how to read them" book.

In the meantime, check out the coins of the earlier rulers on this zeno.ru page.

OK, I finally had enough time to look up the date. The year reads "two and two hundred", or 202 in the Islamic calendar (= 817/8 AD). The mint is City of Samarqand, I believe, located in present-day Uzbekistan. Very similar to this coin on zeno.ru except for the slight difference in date.

Thanks for the translation. Is this coin worth anything?

Islamic coins aren't very popular in the West, due to the foreign language, religion, culture etc barrier, and the market in the Arab world is still very small. When you can find a dealer that sells them, identifiable Abbasid dirhams tend to sell for around $30 or so; this one in better-than-typical condition might sell for a little more.
