Hi everyone
Wonder if anyone can help?
I have a silver medal by Martin Holtzhey, 1734. I know from previous research that it is one of a series or six designed to commemorate the marriage of William IV, Prince of Orange to Queen Anne. My problem is that whilst I can find pictures/descriptions/prices for the other medals in the series quite easily on line, the only place I can find a description of my particular medal is on the British Museum web site (Coins & Medals reg no. M.8300.) also (Van Loon, Gerard, 'Historie Metallique...')
This medal whilst one of the series of six commemorating the marriage has an added dimension as it commemorates the princes recovery from sickness.
A description of the medal is as follows:
Silver medal (obverse) Bust of William IV, Prince of Orange, right, hair long, in armour and mantle fastened with brooch on the shoulder (reverse) Hygieia holding staff and pouring a libation upon an altar encircled by a serpent. Diameter 28 millimetres.
Has anyone come across this medal?
Has anyone any idea of value.
I would be most grateful for any information.
Thanks
