Thanks you for the information. I don't know what happened to the text I wrote, it didn't appear with the pics of the coin. Basically I was asking if I should sell this coin for the silver content or would a collector want it. I am not a coin collector so I am lost here. Thanks again. Budguy1

Right now I'd say hold on and wait for one of the resident experts. Coins from four years (1871,73,74,75) all bore this date and due to the uniquely Spanish way of indicating issue date, by I think marking the stars; the 1871/73 is worth a lot more than the other dates. Your coin at present is worth +/- $25 as silver. You may get a pleasant surprise if one of our mavens get on the case.

Your coin worth something between 30-40$.This amount of money can't give you anything. So the better thing is to keep the coin even if you are not a coin collector.Does not worth to sell such a nice coin.

This coin laid hidden for at lease 30 years that I know of. It was found face down in the attic. That is why the face is clean and the back is dirty. I did not clean it because I was told it was bad for the coin. As I stated, I am not a collector and know nothing about this hobby. The coin does me no good sitting in a drawer. I put it in a coin holder to keep it from any scratches, but I'd like to sell it as a collector piece or for the silver. I'm ni New York but I don't think it wise to walk into a coin store to sell it, too many crooks here.

not sure why $30 or $40 isn't good money to epop (he or she must have some fine dollars in the bank). But if I were not a collector and with the price of silver so high, why not sell it and put it in the hands of collectors. I don't think walking into a NY dealer is going to get you ripped off. you know something about the coin, you know the price of silver so it is up to you to decide whether or not the offer by the dealer is satisfactory. You can always walk out! However, that said, this coin looks like it had been cleaned before. I know you said it was laying face down but that face has a look of being cleaned in my not so expert opinion. A dealer will spot this easily, if true, and you will see the offer go down significantly. Again, that is your choice.

Either way that's a nice coin! You were lucky to find a nice silver coin. Maybe it's time for you to start a coin collection!

weavus135 Thank you for your comment. I can assure you that I did not clean the coin. When I found it, the most I did was blow off the dirt that was on the dirty side. Whoever placed this coin there just plopped it down for whatever reason and I found it in a house I bought in Valley Stream, NY. Do you think I could get $40.00? That is more that the silver value right? Thanks again for your time and understanding.

hey bud, I really have no idea how much you could get for it. That is really a function of the buyer. A dealer is going to want to make some profit (as they should) but a collector may pay more. I think somone did the calculation on silvr content and came up with $25 in silvr value. I don't personally have a lot experience in this area as I haven't ever sold a single coin. It is a way road into my house LOL. As far as the cleaning, I was not suggesting you cleaned it, what I was suggesting was it may have been cleaned in the past and that will detract from what you might get for it. And for the record, I happen to agree with epop about starting a collection...it can be pretty fun. However, if you are not going to enjoy it in that way, getting it out there for a collector is much appreciated.

Weavus; Hi again. Coin collecting is for those that love coins but not for me. I collected Anheuser Busch, (Budweiser) for 30 years and do know what it takes to be a colllector. I'm in my 70's now and don't have the resources or finances to start a new collecting hobby. But you and your fellow collectors who responded to me are all gentelmen who really want to help and I appreciate that. Collectors of anything are usually good people. So to all, and you Weavus, thanks a lot.
