I was nickel searching today and 9 of my rolls were all 2010! Oh well. But I noticed a circular scratch on many of them, sometimes there were multiple concentric circles, usually on the back. How do these come to be? Are they just PMD or mint errors?

Rachums107, Americanamafia is right, they're caused by the rolling machines, if I read your description correctly. Anyway, when we get new rolls, we just tuck them away, what the heck?

Could be lathe lines, they have been seen on the reverse of some of the newer nickels. Photos would be needed.

I agree with coppercoins- impossible to be sure. But from how you describe what you did, it sounds like Lathe Lines are more likely than scratches from the finger that tucks in the end of the bankroll.

In lieu of a photo, did you find the same examples in the inside of the roll, or just at the end?
