I just found a doubled die obverse on a 1929D Lincoln Cent. It's a minor class 5 DDO, nothing special, really...except... This is the first documented case of ANY 1929D Lincoln Cent doubled die. So this is the first time I have ever discovered anything that established a purpose for including a new date and mint in the listings for known doubled dies. Images to follow.

You're going to drive yourself crazy looking for minor stuff like that. You need to pick up a couple of good books.

Congratulations Coppercoins! I can't wait to see the pics. It's really cool to be able to find a new die variety on a coin that is 82 years old.

John Wexler and James Wiles both replied already and said they would like to see the coin in hand. Both agree that this is a new find and should be in the reference libraries for all to see. I plan to send this coin on a trip around the country so a few different people can see it and photograph it. Perhaps at least one of them will find a marker on the coin that I missed.

The thing about finds like these is that they are VERY few and VERY far between.
I have visibly inspected over 15,000 coins this month...every one of them going through the microscope. It's not often that you will find anyone with this much patience and dedication to searching coins.
