I have noticed that it is harder and more expensive to get these notes. Any particular reason for this? I am new at Currency collecting so please forgive any ignorance! lol

Hello Coinut,
I just checked the latest retail prices on Coin World's Paper Value's Guide and found that the Series 1935-B $1 Silver Certificate list for $2.50 in Very Good condition and $25.00 in Choice Crisp Uncirculated condition (mid 60's grade)...
The Series 1935-C Silver Certificate $1 Note also list at $2.50 in very Good and only $18.00 in CH. CU condition...

When I sold my Currency Collection so I could focus on Error Coins & Currency, Dealers back than only offered 10% over face value for Silver Certificates, Legal Tender Notes (red seal)and older Federal Reserve notes in the 1928 and 1934 series...
I ended up spending the notes in circulation as I seen the excitement of people behind me in line wanting the notes (that they would have to receive from the cashier), for me, it was worth the 10% loss to pass these on to new collectors (the red seal notes seemed to be the favorite)...

Hmmm, well I believe the ones I looked at were crisp and Unc and were in the $20+ ballpark. I was just surprised because I was able to buy the others in the same grade for maybe $4-5.
