Thanks Psi!! Well, I've got some packages ready to put in mailing packages which I'll buy on Tuesday. Can anyone tell me how much ONE roll of pennies weighs, in pounds weights? I can just multiply that weight per additional rolls. I just need that info to try and make an advance guestimate as to how much each package might weigh so I can research what it might cost before I hit the post office. Costs will decide how many packages I can mail that day as I've a small budget max to work with.

Canada post does not insure coins as far as I can tell. They will ship them, but not insure them. I have been known to label and insure my stuff as scrap silver. The fact that the scraps are little round objects with portraits of monarchs is entirely beside the point.

I'll just be declaring face spending value of the coins. Someone suggested referring to them as tokens. As mentioned in that contest, none are very valuable so "Gifts tokens" works for me as really, thats what they are in worth and intentions. A little souvenirs package of "Canadian" for a US-ian friend

a roll of US-ian pennies weights 143.5 grams (if my new scale is right). But not sure how different Canadian pennies differ in weight.

Thank you Fuzzy317 I just found a US site about how many pennies in a pound (145 coppers per pound) Haven't found a site for Canadian weights yet though. Since coppers are heaviest weights they give me the heaviest weights per roll and that can give me a good "max weight" indication of price range by weight, as well as what kind of post it will go under. I figure the one package is more than one pound and less than two I think.

Thanks Fuzzy, I'll check it out. I'd just like a basic price range anyways to have an advance idea of how many packages I can probably spring for mailing on that day.
Seems like the one MUST SEND NOW package is heavier than the Light package so am into the Small packet higher price range ;)

I declare them at face value , indicate "Canadian coins" and under the "other" (instead of gift) category of export indicate "Numismatic Items". If it's a gift, it's a gift, but describe the contents accurately or risk them disappearing if opened. Not because people steal them, because they enter into a "review" process and often get ignored forever or lost. There's no duty on Canadian coins exported to the US.
Small packets and parcels mailed from Ontario often go to US Customs in Mississauga first (they have a warehouse there) so they get checked before they even hit the border. In BC, they used to head to Seattle for customs clearance. Don't know how it is now.

Thanks a lot Ugly. I did toss in some small flat Canadian souvenir gifts tokens items. I'll state coins on the customs slips though. I wasn't worried about duties or anything. Just thought writing COINS on the label would be an invitation for a dishonest person to snitch the package if they know money is in it. It will probably go to Vancouver from here for processing and then to Seattle, is my guess. Although Spokane is due South of me and closest US city. Its destination is California so its headed in the right general "as the crow flies" direction either way

PS: The contents are only worth a couple/few dollars face value.

I'm American who trades with a few awesome Canadian collectors. Altho I live in North Dakota, a parcel heading to BC goes east to Port Huron, Michigan customs before heading west. The shipping time varies widely. Sometimes I get a parcel shipped to me from Nova Scotia in 5 days, sometimes it takes 2.5 weeks.
I receive coins from Vancouver and Victoria sometimes within a week, sometimes it takes a couple weeks to arrive. A parcel shipped from Winnipeg (130 miles from me) took over a week. The shipper could have walked it here faster.
Don't know if this helps you any but it's some thoughts of mine.

Matchbox, it all helps :) and you live just South of where I started from. The lower SE tip/edge of Lake Winnipeg, about an hours drive NE of Winnipeg. Rural fishing and farming area by the Lake. Most of my relatives still living from that area to Winnipeg, some in Selkirk.
It seems likely that Vancouver and Seattle will be the route and customs places from where I am, by sounds of it. I think its probably about a 10 hour drive from here to Vancouver. I don't think mail goes from the local airport, and I know very few international flights happen from here. So yes, probably surface mail to Vancouver first. Vancouver a main point of entry to Western Canada.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes my packages to get to their destinations!
