First of all,i apologize for the quality of these pictures, but it's all I got for now! this coin looks really old and interesting. Can anyone help me identify it? On one of the sides, you can see a man kneeling before some sort of King. The other side is blurry in the picture,it depicts a figure in the center with stars around it. Any help is much appreciated.

Actually hurts to try and look at the pics. Cellphone camera? Might try a digital camera or scanner...

On the second image the figure appears to be the bust of Christ. This makes the coin either Byzantine or late Roman Imperial. The color appears to be gold...is that what it is made from?

It's a Venetian gold ducat, also known as a "zecchino". In the top pic, on the left hand side next to the haloed standing figure, "S.M.VENET" reads vertically - "Saint Mark of Venice". On the right hand side will be the name of the Doge at the time the coin was struck; that will help narrow down the date. Coins with pretty much identical design were struck from 1290 right through to the end of the Republic in 1797.

Sap thank you very much for your insights! I'm gonna use this information to do some more research on the net. However, the BIG QUESTION is: the owner wants to sell it for 800$,what do you have to say about this?! thank you again!
