So I am some what of a Civil war buff, as I think I have seen every episode of Civil war journals on History channel multiple times....

I decided to try and find some American Civil war silver coins, and the ones I have been able to find thus far, are the 5 oz raised image coins, which go for 200 (the one that goes for 200 is Lee an Grant at 4.5 oz) up to 250 at one ebay shop for the 5 oz silver coins. I really like those, but they are harder for me to get often via price tag....

The other's I have seen in the pure .9999 silver category anyway, is the 2/3 of an oz Liberia silver. Funny, hard to find a good ol fashion 1 oz Civil war coin, that is .9999 silver....

Her we go again with the Liberia coins, first the gold at 3/4 and now I have added 2 of the 2/3 an oz (history of aviation and Chancellorsville), and I got them for 40 even, and nice little addition I think as I used my ebay bucks for this quarter, so basically bonus silver he he he....

My problem is my OCD, I prefer things in even 1 oz fashion, esp with silver, but I figured since these guys sell all day from 40 to 45, getting two for 40 is like buying one and getting another free IMO. Here is a link to the buy below....

I may get more, as there are vast amount in the American civil war genre, but at 40 to 45 each, the premiums are high eh, but one figures if silver keeps a rising, the demand for the 1/2 oz an 2/3 an oz coins may rise as well eh....

He had them listed at 30 grams of silver, is that accurate 15 each, being 2/3 an oz?

Anyhow, to my question, anyone here know of another American Civil war .9999 pure silver coin or gold even I may like, and does anyone esle own or like the 5 0z raised ones, that I personally am very high on?

30 grams is just under 1 troy ounce. Regardless of what you buy, make sure the pieces are clearly marked .999 fine silver (or something similar). Pieces that are not correctly marked are difficult to value.

Civil War knock-offs are common but I don't know of a source for them. Gunbroker.com sells a lot of Civil War memorabilia and also has a Coin & Currency auction section. You might check there.

Thanks BH1964, they both come with COA's even though just one is pictured as I asked the seller. I thought they would be neat to collect for the Civil war related images, and add 2/3 of an oz of silver each time I get one....

I will check out that link as well, thanks....

I own a few of the Liberia rounds and a couple other generic civil war pieces, I wish the U.S. government would come out with some "official" conmemorative coinage but it's not too common. Be sure to pick up some "rebel Dollars' the same silver dollars that circulated in the hands of the confederate govt and southern people after they were cut off from northern silver sources.

Hey thanks RealPeso, I will do a search from some of those, it would be great to get a hold of some silver that was actually in circulation during the Civil war....

It is surprising that there is not more product of a quality mint on the market as I know those raised coins at 5 oz sell fast, even at higher prices as I have been watching them in list....

So the two Liberia coins showed up today, and one was Chancellorsville as expected and the other "History of flight", well the picture of the coin was upside down, so had no idea what I was getting....

Very happy an surprised that it turned out to me a Messerschmitt ME-262, aka one of the first jet airplanes via the German Luftwaffe. Very excited to have gotten that as well, what a great buy for 38 total, the guy didn't even charge me the two bucks for shipping, as I offered 38, due to the two dollar shipping to even it out at 40....

So these Liberia 20$ silver coins 2/3 oz retail for about 45 each so 19 each not to bad right now with silver close to 40 an oz.....

Yeah I just won a rare Lee/Jackson raised coin, the only one I have ever seen thus far. And it is 1.8 troy oz, and I won it for 69 total shipping an all, I guess that is just about spot on, as silver creeps closer to 41 bucks an oz....
Rest in Peace

Dunno what coins you're talking about. How about the Stoned Mountain and Grant halves?

My favorite was the 1861-O half, issued by the US gubmint, the Confederate gubmint, and the state of Lewis E Anna, but all look the same.

If you want a real challenge, collect CWT.

In 1995 the United States produced a commemorative set of three coins referring to the civil war, a standard size silver dollar, $5 gold piece and a clad half. They are not 999 fine or full ounces but are numumasticly appreciated. Here is an ebay example set.

Why not collect the circulating coinage of 1861-65?
