So I have been working on many many sets of coins as I am one who wants to get the set of coins rather then hoard coins. I have been starting to search boxes of quarters pulling silver, ATB, DC/terrirtories and anything that catches my eye. How hard would it be to build a BU set from circulation of 1965-1998 washingtons. Anyone ever try it? The silver I find will of course go to this set too but BU silver in circulation isn't happening for me so I'll take what I can get. Is it worth a shot?

This would be very difficult to build from circulation in "BU" contition, but quite easy in "circulated" quality.

And BU silver Washingtons would be next to impossible to find "in the wild".

However, one CAN build a BU set of the ATB's from circulation.
And you can "still" build a BU set of State Qtrs. from circulation.

But since the Washington Qtr. starts in 1932, you will, at some point, need the help of a coin shop, (or some other venue) to "finish" any set of those Washingtons ! ....

obviously Bu silver wouldn't be found
I would use what silver I found to go into the portion of the set from 32-64
I'm saying 65-98 in BU
I have found about 10 coins so far in great AU shape
I'll use AU rather then BU to describe the coins since I dont grade the coins very well
State Quarters I've been done with before I knew what coin collecting was. I was 9 when the first one came out
and ATB's I pull along with the 2009's
it would be stupid of me to expect to find a set of silver quarters in the wild, I should be put in an institute if I think I'll find a set of BU silver

Absolutely. But hurry. Not to long ago almost anything in coins was pulled out of circulation. Now due to the last several years of poor economy and people out of work, those old jars, cans, boxes, rolls of coins stashed away for a rainy day are being used. Home invasions, coin store robberies, etc also are adding to the coins found in circulation. Criminals just spend coins, they don't make collections.
However, to find an entire collection of BU or MS grades in anything is really slim due to all the machines now used to count coins.

I think its worth a shot... I would use AU but aim for BU... start building and as you find more BU coins replace the AU ones...
