Nice finds ... sorry I missed you at the show.
I was there as well ... and for the next Baltimore show I am going to coordinate a CCF meeting where we can all say hello live.

55, 55 D, and Mercury are some VERY nice dimes.
Believe anybody collecting dimes should have three more power built into their loupe though...can go blind on that size of ooin.

Nickelsearcher - I agree. Was at the show Thursday, and I wondered how many members were there.

jprine-
heckuva die crack, too.
Wonder how many coins the dealer lost to shoplifting vs the extra 20 cents he made over melt.

Nice pickups. You've got a few nice full torches, there, too.

At what point in a coins life time does a coin get toned? Is it something that happens over time our when its manufactured? Once you find a toned cone you like will it change over time?

It can happen abruptly or over a long period of time. Some toning is more stable than other toning, but all toning is volatile, ever-changing. Copper is more apt to tone abruptly than silver, although I've seen silver darken, even take on color, in 2x2s, within a matter of just a few months.

Thanks all!
bigfredd - I thought that was a scratch after I took the photo! I wasn't looking with a loupe at the show given the low cost over melt. They probably didn't have to worry about shoplifting - they were all in a case that opened from the side facing the dealer. It just made it annoying to search through - so I went back at various times to see what was sitting on the top of the stacks.
willy - Toning is related to the environment in which the coin is left. A lot of means of storage contain chemicals that will tone the coins 'naturally.' Sometimes people try to force this to happen more quickly, in which case it ruins the coin instead of enhancing it (although some collectors consider any toning to be damage).

Toning is damage! Some coins look very nice toned...but I wouldnt put any toned coins in my Dansco albums...because I always try to put the best condition coins in my albums and toned coins are damaged. Just my opinion of course. That Mercury dime is awesome though mshev!
