Are there coins ie. errors, low mintage, etc. that tend to be still in circulation and are worth looking for in jars and pocket change? Obviously something of value would be difficult to find, but are there some "commonly" found coins that are worth keeping?

You can still find the 1982 cents in the small and large dates. They are not worth much but it is neat when you compare the 2 side by side. I keep the 1982 and 1983 nickels, dimes and quarters that are in AU cond. and better.

i find roughly half a dozen wheats and 2-3 early 40's nickels almost every night at the register. so of course you can find a lot of things from circulation. (99.9% of my collection is from circulation) ;)

USArmyParatrooper - I always check change - you never know what you will find. I keep anything that is ODD and I look for several types of coins that end up in circulation on a regular basis:

1. Circulated proofs - you find circulated S mint coins from broken proof sets more often than you would suspect.
2. Die varieties - like the comments above - they ARE out there you just need to know what they look like.
3. Intrinsic items - silver is obvious but nickel and copper are becoming valuable.

It's really a good idea to keep the nicest coin of each date and mintmark. Not that these will ever necessarily become valuable but it will help you identify the scarcities to know what they are supposed to look like. You'll also learn much more about coins and circulation. The cost of this is very nominal (the cent book will cost more than the cents and the quarter set will cost less than $20 with the book).

Circulating coinage is far richer than in the past simply because so few people are looking at it. This won't last forever because they are starting to.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
