I hope I didn't over pay for this... I bought it ungraded, which means I had to grade it on site! Tell me your thoughts and I'll tell you what I paid in a day or so. My typical lamp that I use is not working - so don't mind the white balance. I can't fix it with the editing program I have (or at least I can't find how to). This coin has at least 95% luster

Beautiful nickel! Unfortunately I'm not great at grading them. I assume this one is from Baltimore?

It looks to have orginial luster and some hits on the reverse. MS 63. Super nice.

Very nice, with excellent detail. The buffalo's head can be weakly struck on this date but this one looks great. Appears MS, with contact marks appropriate for a 63 to 64 grade.

That's a beauty I would say MS-64

This was from the show in Baltimore. I put it at MS63 mainly b/c of the contact marks. But I bought it because it had some pretty sharp details. I wouldn't call it a full detail coin, but Sharp for sure. There's also a mark on the neck of the Indian that's a tad distracting, but still went with it because the overall coin has good eye appeal in my opinion.
I ended up paying $200 for the coin.

There is a big price jump between the two... But I wont send it in. It's already in my Dansco :)
Although if I really thought I could get 64 for this I probably would send it in and resell it. I just think there's too much wrong with it to get 64.

One thing to note is that TPG's tend to grade coins more on "eye appeal" - with luster playing a huge role - than a strict technical evaluation of every mark. For this coin, seems to have great luster and a monster strike which will work in its favor. Little chance they'd give it a 65 with those marks but I really think it's almost a shoe-in for 64.

It will probably never see a slab ;/ And the problem is, if it did see a slab - I'd have to sell it. I've already cracked some MS66 buffaloes out of slabs to put in the Dansco, so I couldn't get it graded just for a professional opinion. It would be sold and then I'd go buy another one. So it will probably forever rest in my Dansco.

The major attribute of this coin is Strike. The hair strands above the Indians braid-ribbon are strong, and the Bison's back and shoulder wool is struck-up nicely - plus it has a full split tail ending. Three areas you should always check for strike on Buffalo nickels.
